Behind every emergency management system are people who dedicate their time, expertise and responsibility to ensure everything works when every second counts. Serge Wenger experiences this reality every day. In addition to his role as Scrum Product Owner at MATISA, he also coordinates the company's first aid service, drawing on more than twelve years of experience as a first responder and firefighter instructor.
Two areas of expertise, one shared objective
Technology and emergency management naturally go hand in hand throughout Serge's professional career.
"My primary role is Scrum Product Owner, but I also serve as the person responsible for the company's first responders."
Taking on this responsibility was a natural step based on his years of experience.
"I have experience as a firefighter instructor and have been working as a first responder for more than twelve years. It therefore felt natural to take on this responsibility when my colleague proposed it."
Technology supports—people make the difference
For Serge, the most important aspect of his role is not technology, but people.
"What I enjoy most about my role as head of the first response team is the human aspect: training my colleagues and helping them prepare. Everything we do is for the benefit of MATISA's employees—their health, their safety and their well-being."
Preparedness is measured not only by procedures but by people's ability to respond competently when it matters most.
Being ready at the right moment
One of the main challenges is ensuring that first responders are available and can be alerted quickly.
"The main challenge is having enough well-trained first responders who are available at the right time and can be alerted efficiently and reliably whenever an emergency occurs."
In this process, Momentum PRO plays a key role.
"For our first responders, it is the primary alerting channel. All notifications go through Momentum."
Today, the platform also supports evacuation management.
"More recently, we have also been using Momentum PRO to alert evacuation wardens whenever one or more buildings need to be evacuated."
The future lies in digitalization
For Serge Wenger, digital transformation will continue to play an increasingly important role in emergency management.
"Digitalization is extremely important. It will allow us to be more effective exactly when it matters most, and it will also help us better prepare our processes."
The objective is not to replace people but to equip them with tools that enable better decisions and faster responses.
