This philosophy guides Isabelle Pereira Barroncas, QHSE Director at MATISA, where quality, health, occupational safety and continuous improvement are all part of one integrated approach.
A role that brings quality and safety together
After several years of experience in the industrial sector, Isabelle joined MATISA at the end of 2022. She now leads a cross-functional department that supports the company across a wide range of areas, involving the entire organization regardless of employees' roles or levels of responsibility.
"My role is very broad because it covers both quality as well as occupational health and safety."
Her day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining multiple ISO certifications and accreditations, as well as managing risks, with one common objective: providing every employee with the best possible conditions to carry out their work.
People at the Heart of Safety
When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Isabelle answers without hesitation: working closely with people.
"What I enjoy most is the variety of activities that come with my role as QHSE Director. But if we focus specifically on HSE, what I truly appreciate is supporting people in their daily work, staying close to operations, and paying attention to their well-being and their everyday concerns."
At MATISA, safety is built first and foremost through a strong presence in the field, listening to people, and continuously improving—just as much as through procedures and technology.
Preparing means training every day
According to Isabelle, effective emergency management requires continuous work on skills, awareness and collaboration.
"Several aspects need to be taken into account, starting with raising awareness of potential hazards."
Alongside continuous training, the ability to coordinate everyone involved during a crisis is equally essential.
"You need to be able to manage stress during an emergency, whether it is a fire or another critical event, while also involving external partners such as the fire brigade or the police, so that all activities are coordinated and everyone has clearly defined roles and responsibilities."
Safety challenges continue to evolve
For Isabelle, the future of emergency management will be closely linked to technological developments and the growing complexity of risks.
"The evolution will primarily be driven by new technologies."
Digital platforms, artificial intelligence and new decision-support tools will enable organizations to respond to increasingly dynamic situations.
"Crises will become increasingly unpredictable and complex."
A partnership built over time
The collaboration between MATISA and sureVIVE began in 2019 and continues to evolve alongside the organization's needs.
"If I had to summarize these three years with sureVIVE and Momentum PRO, I would first of all say that they are a committed partner, attentive to MATISA's needs, who has continuously developed its product and provides us with the technological support we need, while remaining firmly focused on the challenges of today and tomorrow."
